The Chicago Science Teacher Research (CSTR) program is an initiative by the faculty of four UIC Colleges in cooperation with Chicago Public School (CPS) authorities and industrial interest groups to address the need to engage in-service teachers in emerging technologies and cutting edge research in the areas of material sciences, nanotechnology, bio-, biomedical and environmental engineering. A few fellowships of $8000 each are sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Chicago Public School Research Experiences for Research Teachers (RET) Program.The program will be held from June 23 to August 12, 2016.
Main highlights of the program (click for flier)
- Hands-on experience in a research laboratory
- Engagement with leading researchers in engineering
- Participation in seminars on emerging technologies and professional development
- Opportunities to enhance delivery of science and engineering education at your school or community college
- Development of novel educational math and classroom modules for students
- Tutorial on educational grant writing
Emphasis will be placed on using state-of-the-art experimental and computational facilities. Especially we encourage mathematics teachers and computer instructors interested in Visualization of Scientific Data and Mathematical Modeling to apply.
